WPSL TEAM OF THE WEEK II: MAY 30-JUNE 1

SACRAMENTO, CA (06/03/08) - Like a fluid build-up through the midfield, the pace of the 2008 Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL) season continues to accelerate, as the Big Sky & Midwest Conferences commenced firing at their respective goals this past weekend. In that sense, our WPSL Co-Player of the Week honorees were doing just that as Arizona's Jessica McDonald and Denver's Orly Ripmaster combined for six goals as their sides went undefeated in Big Sky action.

F Jessica McDonald (ARIZONA RUSH) - WPSL CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK
The U.S. U-20 National Team star & soon-to-be North Carolina Tar Heel scored a hat-trick in just 32 minutes of action in the first half of Arizona's season-opening victory at Albuquerque. The eventual game-winner was scored by the two-time NSCAA Youth All-American from Glendale, AZ in the 7th minute as she placed herself at the end of a Kelly Block (UC-Irvine) cross.

F Danielle Dos Santos (BREVARD COUNTY COCOA EXPOS)
The 2007 Conference-USA Newcomer of the Year for the University of Central Florida & Brazilian native translated her collegiate success to her club side. Dos Santos scored a remarkable four goals over the 2-0 weekend for the Sunshine Conference leader Cocoa Expos.

F Katie Schoepfer (SOCCERPLUS CT)
The U.S. U-23 National Team member & Penn State star notched a goal and an assist in the 3-0 win over the Boston Aztecs on May 30th. SoccerPlus CT is undefeated and tied with the New England Mutiny for first place in the East-North Division.

MF Orly Ripmaster (DENVER DIAMONDS) - WPSL CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK
The former Colorado Buffaloes standout & 2007 All-WPSL selection scored three goals and an assist in the Diamonds' first two games of the 2008 season - both wins. The Diamonds' outside midfielder scored in the 24th and 80th minutes in the first win against Salt Lake City Sparta and against the rival Utah Spiders, Orly assisted on the first goal then scored the second goal of the game in a come-from-behind 3-2 victory for Denver.

MF Katie Gardiner (ADIRONDACK LYNX)
The former Gatorade Connecticut Player of the Year & Hartford standout notched two goals (including the eventual game-winner) in the Lynx's first win of 2008 vs. the Massachusetts Stingers. With a little over 12 minutes left in the first half, Gardiner received a ball at the edge of the 18 and ripped a shot into the near-post upper 90 of the goal and in the second half, scored off of a header from Emily Bohn.

MF Salma Tarik (LOS ANGELES RAMPAGE)
The CSU-Northridge & Egyptian Women's National Team maestro has arguably been one of the most creative players on the first place Pacific-South Division side this season and versus the Claremont Stars, Tarik was responsible for the play that led to the game-winning goal. After beating two defenders and penetrating into the goal box, a defender pulled Tarik down from behind, forcing the referee to blow the whistle for a penalty kick in the 60th minute.

D Rochelle Willis (MIAMI KICKERS)
The former Princeton University & New Jersey Wildcats stalwart took control of the match against F.C. Thomasville, shutting down the opponent's offensive attacks and settled down the pace of the game in Miami's first win of the 2008 season.

D Stacie Alberico / Maureen Whitney (CALIFORNIA STORM)
Each of these players contributed greatly in two wins this past weekend for the perennial powerhouse Storm. Their solid defensive efforts and ability to anchor the back line was stupendous while they also contributed greatly in getting the ball forward and creating in the attack.

D Alea Kerch (SAN DIEGO SEALIONS)
The former Cal-Berkeley defender played an important role in Saturday's 2-1 defeat over SD United, the first win of the season for the SeaLions. Kerch cleared a ball off the line early in the game, and defended constantly as if she were two players.

GK Julie Arroyo (PUERTO RICO CAPITALS)
The 2007 NCAA DIII Woman of the Year Finalist notched two shutouts (in two scoreless draws) against two strong opponents last weekend. Arroyo faced 19 shots (10 saves) against the Florida Surge and faced 20 shots (11 saves) in the match versus the Sunshine Conference leading-Cocoa Expos.

HONORABLE MENTION: F Kelsey Hunyadi (OHIO PREMIER) - The Third Team All-Big East & Soccer Buzz Freshman All-Region selection for Louisville scored on her first touch of the season in her first WPSL game to get the game-winner vs. F.C. St. Louis; F Erin Gatto (NEW ENGLAND MUTINY) - the 2007 All-WPSL selection & former Boston Breaker scored the game's only goal in a tough road win for the defending WPSL East champions; F Lydia Hastings (AC DIABLOS) - the U.S. U-18 star & soon-to-be Maryland Terrapin scored two goals in the Diablos' second win of the season; MF Shari Summers (SD UNITED) - the Stanford star & All-Pac-10 First Team selection scored the game-winning goal vs. Claremont by taking on four players and after her shot hit the crossbar and bounced back into play, she finished it off herself; D Jamie De Araujo (SAN FRANCISCO NIGHTHAWKS) - the Nighthawks gave up only two goals all weekend to the first and second place teams in the Pacific-North Division, and Araujo put in the game-tying goal on a set-piece in the 1-1 draw with Sonoma County F.C. Sol; D Erica Sutton (SOCCERPLUS CT) - the Florida State defender notched the game-winning goal in the 21st minute in another shutout win. The right back scored on a 30-yard blast vs. Boston, which was assisted by fellow WPSL TOTW member in Schoepfer.
